The United States one-cent coin, often called a penny, has had an obverse that featured the profile of President Abraham Lincoln since 1909 when it was released to to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth. From 1959 to 2008, the Lincoln Memorial was shown on the reverse of the United States one cent coin.
The statue of Lincoln can be seen in the monument. This was done to mark the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth. Originally released in 1909 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.
The memorial also appears on the back of the U.S. five dollar bill, the front of which bears Lincoln’s portrait. The United States five-dollar bill features the 16th U.S. President (1861-65), Abraham Lincoln's portrait on the front and the Lincoln Memorial on the back. All $5 bills issued today are Federal Reserve Notes. |
